Samsung had launched its premium mid range phone A80 last year around july for a whopping 42,000 INR. I don't know if you can call it a mid range phone as per its price, but as per its specs, that's what it is just with a revolutionary rotating camera.
Coming to the specs, the Samsung Galaxy A80 has all the bells and whistles a top tier smartphone has but was pushed back in the Soc segment as it carried a Snapdragon 730G chip-set. Although the Snapdragon 730 is not a bad chip-set, it can only be called a mid range chip-set due to its performance. Now the reason this phone is being recommended is due to a Flipkart sale that offers this phone for 22,000 INR for 8GB and 128 GB variant which is too good of a deal to ignore. Let us go through all the features it sports and know it in detail and why it is definitely worth every penny for 22,000 INR.
The body of the Samsung Galaxy A80 comes with an aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 in the back and with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 in the front. It weighs around 220g which is on the heavier side but it is the only Samsung phone that offers a full screen without a notch or a camera disrupting your viewing experience. It also comes with a dual sim card slot and no slot for an SD card support.
The Samsung Galaxy A80 features a 6.7 inch super AMOLED capacitive touch screen which has a full HD resolution 1080 x 2400 pixels which is much enjoyable with that notch less display not interfering with the content. The phone also has a pixel density of 393 ppi which is more than enough for a 6.7 inch display WITH a super AMOLED screen. The phones also comes with a in-display finger print scanner which was only available in top-tier smartphones at the time of its launch but is available in every mid-range phone these days. It has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and 85.76% screen to body ratio which is considered large even today.
The Samsung Galaxy A80 comes powered with Octa core Snapdragon 730G processor and 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage option.
The smartphone comes with a 3700 mAh battery which would easily give a days usage for easy to moderate users but would have to be charged twice for heavy users. The phone also comes with a 25 W fast charger which will charge up 50% in just 25-30 min.
The smartphone comes with only one choice of storage option that is 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
The A80 comes with Android 9.0 up-gradable to 10.0 with a software update. The smartphone is not pure android though as it runs on Samsung's One UI 2.0 which is fairly good t use.
Now to address the elephant in the room, this phone was launched when the trend of pop-up cameras was increasing.
Wouldn't you love it if you selfie camera was as good as your main camera? Well that's where the A80 makes it a reality.
The A80 has a triple camera setup consisting of a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra wide lens and a 3 MP depth sensing camera. Now this camera setup raises and rotates to become the front camera where you can use the main camera as your selfie camera for those good pictures. The main 48 MP camera has f 1.8 aperture and a 123 degree field of view. The secondary 8 MP ultra wide camera has an f 2.4 aperture lens with the same 123 degree field of view. The third camera is a 3 MP depth sensor. The phone supports 4K 30fps recording with EIS and 1080p recording at 60 fps also with EIS. The camera also comes with a steady mode and a super study mode which help in recording a perfectly steady video. But there are also draw back of this rotating camera as the camera doesn't auto focus once it rotates to front also we cannot use the flash module when it is rotated to the front for some unknown reason.
So, to conclude if it is worth the money to buy it in 2020, almost after an year of it's launch, I would say given the Samsung brand name and the crazy good display Samsung offers along with that revolutionary rotating camera, at this price would be a good deal to miss.
