Hello Readers,

Do you know that some of the natural ingredients that are available at home and stores for a lesser price is so harmful and causes damage to your skin? Scroll down and read to know about the 5 things you should never apply on your face.

Let's get started.

• Baking Soda

Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is an alkaline having pH greater than 7. The pH in 0.1 molar solution of baking soda is around 8.3 whereas the ideal pH of skin is 5.5. Which means pH of baking soda is basic and skin's pH is acidic. When both the acid and base react it causes extreme changes in the skin's pH levels affecting the skin's protective oil barrier, causing irritation, redness and dryness of skin, disrupts natural bacteria which prevents skin infections like acne breakouts, rosacea.

• Charcoal

The Charcoal mask removes excess oil but along with natural oils which are essential for your skin. Removal of this mask is so painful due to its strong adhesive property causing scarring, infection and hyperpigmentation.

• Lemon

Lemons are highly acidic and its a no-no for skin irrespective of any skin type. They are acceptable to eat or drink which improves your skin health but never apply it directly onto your face which may lead to hyperpigmentation, irritation, inflammation, redness and skin burns.

• Raw Egg

Eggs contain Salmonella bacteria which causes Salmonella infection. It is safe to eat eggs when they are handled and cooked properly but applying it directly on your face or DIY egg masks and not cleaning egg spills properly is so harmful to you as well as people surrounding you.

• Toothpaste

Toothpaste is again an alkaline which contains hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and other harsh substances to clean hard surface i.e, teeth. When such a product is applied to your face which is a sensitive part it causes irritation, redness and damages the skin.
